Info

Randall & Allen, 1977

Adult yellowtail damselfish are sedentary and live at depths of 3 to 40 meters, where they inhabit various corals and rocky reefs.
They are carnivorous, feeding on various zooplankton, but will also eat algae.

Like all reef fish, they stick their spawn to the rock wall in protected caves or hidden niches, where it is up to the males to protect the fertilized eggs from predators, with the relatively small fish also aggressively attacking larger fish.

These Prussian fish are protogynous hermaphrodites.

The German name is derived from the yellowish to yellowish-white tail. The reef perch is readily available in the marine aquarium trade.
