Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Favites acuticollis are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Favites acuticollis, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Favites acuticollis, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

Favites acuticollis, Ortmann, 1889

Description: Colonies are submassive to encrusting. Corallites are deep with very thin angular walls giving colonies a honeycomb appearance. Corallites are usually less than 7 millimetres diameter. Septa are few and widely spaced, paliform lobes are absent.
Color: Dark colours, often with white upper margins to walls.

Similar Species: Favites pentagona, which has thicker walls, slightly larger corallites and well developed paliform lobes. See also F. spinosa, which has very exsert septa and Goniastrea columella, which has paliform lobes.
