Info
Exyrias ferrarisi inhabits shallow, well-protected bays and estuaries and occurs solitary or in pairs on sand or mud along algae reef edges.
This goby only occurs in the waters around the Philippines and in the Strait of Makassar, a strait between Kalimantan (formerly known as Borneo), Sulawesi and stretching south to the Lesser Sunda Islands.
The ground colour is goby is a broken white; at the base of the pectoral fins a dark spot is noticeable, body and fins are covered with numerous small light and dark spots, the goby looks rather inconspicuous and very well adapted to the ground.
The goby was named after the ichthyologist Dr. Carl J. Ferraris.
Aquaristic experiences with the goby are not known to us.
Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
