Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Tigrigobius macrodon are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Tigrigobius macrodon, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Tigrigobius macrodon, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

Tigrigobius macrodon (Beebe & Tee-Van, 1928)

Tigrigobius is a genus of small, often strikingly colored gobies native to warmer parts of the east Pacific and west Atlantic,
Some species of Tigrigobius are known to act as cleaners.

The small goby lives in coral stands but also in sponges surrounded by white sand.
The animals are found singly or in pairs on small coral heads and sponges, occasionally also on rocky substrates.

This goby, which only grows to 3-5 cm, is best kept in pairs or singly.

They are happy to eat frozen and flake food.
Unfortunately, acclimatization is not easy as the gobies are very shy at first.

If they are kept together with small gobies, they can often be seen and are not very shy.

However, this goby tends to assert itself against everything else, but does no harm.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
