(Jenkins & Evermann, 1889)
Very special thanks for the first photo of Gobiosoma chiquita to the famous Australien ichthyologist Dr. Ross Robertson.
Dr. Robertson has taken his photo at Mexico.
The first photo shows a female.
Sonora goby inhabits shallow water in mainly rocky shores to a depth of 10 meters. It can usually be found in tide pools and often over sand and gravel substrate in estuaries.
This goby is endemic to the Eastern Pacific, is found in the Gulf of California and is here is probably the most common tidepool fish.
Synonym:
Gobius chiquita Jenkins & Evermann, 1889
Classification: Biota > Animalia (Kingdom) > Chordata (Phylum) > Vertebrata (Subphylum) > Gnathostomata (Superclass) > Pisces (Superclass) > Actinopteri (Class) > Perciformes (Order) > Gobioidei (Suborder) > Gobiidae (Family) > Gobiinae (Subfamily) > Gobiosoma (Genus) > Gobiosoma chiquita (Species)
Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
