Info
Nose barbels belong to the perch relatives and they feed herbivorously on algae and various sea grasses.
The rodless basses form two genera, the genus Graus and the genus Girella. The way in which the fish graze algae from the substrates gave them the German name Nagebarsche (gnawing perch).
The animals are quite common at their sites of occurrence, at depths of up to 15 meters, easily accessible to divers.
