Since 2008 Nembrotha rutilans has reclassified as Nembrotha purpureolineata.The body colour is a creamy white with large brown patches.Nembrotha purpureolineata is easily confused with Nembrotha aurea and Nembrotha chamberlaini.

Nembrotha purpureolineata feeds on ascidians and tunicates.
