Info

Schizomavella (Schizomavella) mamillata (Hincks, 1880)

This bryozoan immediately catches the eye with its bright yellow to light orange-yellow color. It is endemic to the Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic, occurring in Foz do Douro and the Algarve, Portugal.

The animal has an uneven, grainy surface structure and, under good conditions, can cover an area of 30 cm x 30 cm.

It settles on stones, rocks, and walls covered with coral, but has a clear preference for vertical walls and overhanging rock ledges with good light exposure. It is found at depths between 10 and 95 meters.
