Info
(Petagna, 1792)
The mole crab is found in the north of Scandinavia, across the British Isles, through the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, and up to the coasts of northwest Africa.
The crab builds a Y-shaped burrow with two or more exits in sandy and muddy soils at depths of up to 45 meters, and is sometimes found in river estuaries.
In the 1990s, there was a mass die-off of these animals in the Black Sea, caused by a phytoplankton bloom.
