Info

Anthopleura sola Pearse & Francis, 2000

Anthopleura sola, a sexually reproducing sea anemone, reaches a height of approximately 12 cm and a diameter of approximately 25 cm.
The animal also settles on small stones, mussel shells, on rocky surfaces in cracks and crevices.

This pretty cold-water anemone, which has an attractively striped, cream-colored or greenish mouth disk, has a predator, the broad-wart snail Aeolidia papillosa.

The greenish color comes from partially embedded zooxanthellae.

What is interesting is that the tentacles of two sea anemones that touch each other inflate greatly and both animals fight each other until one of the two retreats.
