Info

Phycis blennoides (Brünnich, 1768)

At first glance, Phycis blennoides looks very similar to Phycis phycis and, like all cod, has a barbel on its chin.

Phycis blennoides feeds mainly on various crustaceans and fish, which the cod catches at depths of 10-1050 meters, although it also likes to eat squid.

Due to its size, it is not suitable for normal home aquariums, but certainly for large display aquariums with appropriate hiding places for the animal.

The body color of the fish is brown to reddish-gray on the dorsal side, becoming paler on the ventral side.

The animal is commercially fished and is a tasty source of protein, although it is mostly processed into fish meal.
