Antholoba achates (Drayton in Dana, 1846)

The animal lives in water depths from just below the surface to 327 metres.
Verena Häussermann has been able to detect the porcelain crab Allopetrolisthes spinifrons on the anemone.

Antholoba achates is a spectacular species that is widely distributed in the South-East Pacific from the Galapagos Islands, the Pacific coast of South America (Peru, Chile) and on the Atlantic coast of South America (Patagonia, Falkland Islands).

This robust variety is characterised by a broad foot, a rather short column with dark, dense spots, a deeply wavy mouth plate with numerous, short tentacles.

Colour: the colour can vary quite considerably, red, yellow, orange, green.

Reproduction: takes place within the mother in a rarely occurring brood body.
