Info

Didogobius amicuscaridis Schliewen & Kovačić, 2008

A characteristic of this animal is that it is unique in behavioral biology. It's symbiotic relationship with the shrimp lobster Axiopsis serratifrons serves as a model of how the symbiosis between shrimp gobies and pistol shrimp has developed.

Didogobius amicuscaridis and its partnering shrimp lobster do live in symbiosis, they do not, however, show the same tight relationship as shrimp gobies and pistol shrimp (e.g. they are not constantly in touch via the shrimps' antennae).

This species also owes its name to this distinctive characteristic: "amicus caridis" means "lobster friend"

.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
