Info

Paraselene orstedii is a benthopelagic and demersal species found in shallow coastal waters.
It forms small schools, usually near the bottom over sandy and hard substrates.

Juveniles are often found in estuaries.

Color: Paraselene orstedii is overall silvery, also metallic blue-green depending on light conditions.

The Mexican moonfish has hardly been researched, and very limited information is available about its behavior and life history, including specific details on age, growth, longevity, movement patterns, diet, habitat use, and reproduction.

It is a good food fish and is caught by artisanal fishermen using gillnets; recreational fishing is also popular.
