Info

Dicentrarchus punctatus is the smaller relative of the European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), both species occur partly in the same distribution area, but rarely come into conflict with each other as food competitors due to their deep distribution.

Dicentrarchus punctatus has an elongated, slightly compressed body with two separate dorsal fins of equal length and height
The top of the predator's head is straight, the mouth is wide, ideal for devouring larger prey such as squid.
The back is light to dark grey with many small black spots, the sides and belly, as usual with fish, light silver in color to confuse larger predators coming from below (perception by light incidence from above and light belly color from below often make “invisible”.

Dicentrarchus punctatus is partly fished commercially as it is a tasty food fish, and is also very popular with sport anglers.
