Info

The crustose anemone Vitrumanthus oligomyarius was found in Suruga Bay, Shizuoka and off Katsuura, Chiba, Pacific coast of Japan, at depths of 390 meters on its host, the glass sponge Tretochone duplicata (Topsent, 1928).

Vitrumanthus oligomyarius had about 300 cylindrical polyps, which are located all over the three-dimensionally structured hexactinellid sponge body.
The ectoderm of the polyps is partially encrusted with small sand and silica particles (approx. < 0.1 mm).
Vitrumanthus oligomyarius can be easily distinguished from other Vitrumanthus species by the number of tentacles and its unique mesenteric arrangement.

The Japanese name of the crustose anemone is 'Subesube-ruri-sunaginchaku'.
