Liocarcinus vernalis (Risso, 1827)
Liocarcinus vernalis is a small shallow-water crab in the family Portunidae. It was long considered a predominantly Mediterranean species, but its known range was expanded by a series of observations in the 1980s and 1990s. Their distribution area extends from West Africa to the southern North Sea.
Typical of swimming crabs is the fifth pair of legs, which have been transformed into a swimming extremity with a significantly flattened and extremely widened, leaf-shaped end limb.
