Rathbunella alleni (Gilbert, 1890)
Rathbunella allenii is a genus of only two species that occurs on the North American Pacific coast from San Francisco Bay to Baja California. The genus was named after Richard Rathbun (1852-1918).
Rathbunella species live on sandy or rocky sea beds and feed on invertebrates, especially crustaceans and nudibranchs. The clutch of eggs is guarded by the male until the larvae hatch.
While Rathbunella hypoplecta is brown-striped, Rathbunella alleni is purple-striped, both are benthic species.
