Heteronucia perlata (Sakai, 1963)
Heteronucia perlata is a crab in the family Leucosiidae, commonly known as ball crabs. The ball crab family includes 40 genera and about 340 species of mostly smaller crabs. Crabs of this family have a rounded, almost spherical body. Most species live buried except for their eyes in sandy and muddy soils.
Heteronucia granulata has been described from the offshore shores of the Ryukyu Islands in southern Japan and the Izu Islands in central Japan.
There is a possibility of confusion with Heteronucia globata.
Heteronucia perlata is completely covered with pearly tubercles, to which the species name "perlata" refers. Beyond that, little further information is available.
