Info

Ramuligorgia militaris is a deep-water gorgonian that lives in very great depths and near-freezing water zones, and is so far known only from the depths around Hawaiii and Johnston Atoll.

The coral's many small and delicate polyps capture passing small zooplankton as well as sinking marine snow.

The species epithet "militaris" was derived from the rigid regularity of the polyps' posture.

Synonym: Pleurogorgia militaris Nutting, 1908
