Murphydoris was a monotypic genus with Murphydoris singaporensis as the type species.

The characteristics of the genus Murphydoris is, that it lacks comb-like respiratory gills; its rhinophores are non-lamellate and its radula formula is n x 1.1.0.1.1. The lateral teeth with a single tapering point with 12 denticles and the marginal teeth are bicuspid.

Murphydoris puncticulata has a cream body with rows of low, irregular tubercles and irregular extrabranchial processes. Body with brown spots. Spicules are visible in the body wall.
