The Indian sea bat, a demersal species, inhabits muddy substrates on continental shelves and upper slopes.
It is widespread and is increasingly entering the Western Indian Ocean region, most recently the Gulf of Oman.

The sea bat is easily recognized by its yellow pectoral fins with a white stripe across them.
