Info

Handactis nutrix (Stuckey, 1909)

The brooding anemone can be found throughout New Zealand and southern Australia on brown seaweeds (particularly Cystophora, Xiphophora, and Carpophyllum).

Often see juvenile anemones in a ring around the base of the anemone, hence its common name "brooding anemone".

Predators of brooding anemones are ffishes and the nudibranch Spurilla australis.
