Info
On February 3, 2022, the first description of the new soft coral Xenia konohana was published in ZooKeys.
The coral was discovered around Oshima Island, Miyazaki, in Japan attached to the surface of rocks or rock debris.
The tentacles of the xenia are 4.0 mm long and 0.5 mm wide, they have three rows of leaflets along each side of the tentacles.
Konohana is named after a goddess of Japanese mythology, "Konohanasakuya-hime" ("hime" means "princess" in English).
Her shrine is located in Miyazaki Prefecture. In this study, a standard Japanese name "konohana-umiazami" for Xenia konohana is also proposed.
