Info
Very special thanks for the first photos of Actinia australiensis to Denis Riek, Australia.
Actinia australiensis is a fairly common species in this area and although the coloration on the disc is variable, the pink tips on the tentacles appear to be consistent.
The pedal disc of the anemone is at least as wide as the mouth disc, the body column is red, up to 30 mm long; and may be slightly ribbed lengthwise.
The oral disc is flat, red with white spots near the base of the tentacles.
The approximately 96 pointed tentacles are red with bluish-purple tips and arranged hexagonally, the inner tentacles are about half as long as the diameter of the oral disc, the outer tentacles are shorter
Habitat. Intertidal on rocks in the surf zone, especially on the underside of rocks and in crevices around the low water line.
