Info

Verconia varians (Pease, 1871)

The body of this species is translucent with orange viscera visible through the notum and, usually, an interrupted white stripe down the mid-line. The rhinophores and gills are translucent and usually tipped with magenta/purple.

Feeds exclusively on sponges.

The egg mass is pale yellow-orange in colour.

Rare in the Marshalls, Verconia varians is so far known from only three specimens observed at Kwajalein Atoll. Specimens from Hawaiii look a bit different.

Similar to Verconia norba.
