Very special thanks for the first two photos of the Dwarf wrasse (Doratonotus megalepis) to Frank Krasovec, USA.
Frank has taken his photos at two locations, Blue Heron Bridge in Riviera Beach, Fordia and the wreck of the Hyde off Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.
Doratonotus megalepis, also called "Sneaky wrasse" is a secret species, may be quite common (but seldom noticed) but its habits and coloration may prevent it from being observed.
The wrasses are variable in colour, brown to reg or bright green, ususlly matching its algae habitat.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
