Info

Hipposcarus harid, also known as Indian long nose or Candelamoa Parrotfish, is one of two species of the genus Hipposcarus. This parrot fish is found from the Red Sea east to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and south to Mozambique and Cocos Keeling.

Hipposcarus harid is found mainly in deep lagoons and sheltered bays as well as outer reefs. Primary food is Algae, which in the inner reef is almost never seen. Often encountered in groups of one male and several females.

Due to the expected final size of this fish (70-75 cm), it is totally unsuitable for a standard seawater-aquarium and may be reserved for more experienced specialists and really great aquariums.

Order: Perciformes
Family: Scaridae
